A brand new addition to the Edinburgh events calendar has been unveiled, giving people a chance to see one of the city’s best known and loved spaces in a whole new light at the first RBS Museum Lates event on Friday 11 November at the National Museum of Scotland.

Supported by The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, the first of the new RBS Museum Lates events will give visitors the chance to explore the galleries, relax with food, drink, DJs, live music and even a silent disco in the Imagine gallery, which is more normally a daytime space for children.

The beautiful, soaring Grand Gallery will be the hub of the event, with pop-up bars and music throughout, featuring Edinburgh based experimental pop act Found with support from Glasgow based Ben Butler and Mousepad and Hip-hop producer and DJ S-type. MC and DJ for the evening will be BBC Radio 1 DJ Ally MacRae, who recently took over from Vic Galloway as host of Introducing … in Scotland.

The Museum reopened to the public in July following a £47 million transformation, and the new galleries will be open, covering themes such as the Natural World, World Cultures, Discoveries and Science and Technology.

The RBS Museum Lates event will give people the chance to see objects in this setting and enjoy some of the interactive displays more usually occupied by children during the day, from Formula One racing to comparing your weight to various animals. There will be some surprises in the galleries as the evening progresses, including some close up creepy crawly encounters and plenty of opportunities to get creative.

Participants will be encouraged to get busy on the night with their phones and cameras, tweeting pictures, live-blogging and talking about the event.

We know that our visitors keen to see the Museum in a more informal and social context – having fun in a museum isn’t just for children but for adults too. The line-up is sure to bring in new audiences and tickets are already selling really well.”

This is the first in the series of RBS Museum Lates, which will be held quarterly in the Museum. Future Lates will be themed with the next in the series coinciding with the Fascinating Mummies exhibition in February.

FOUND

FOUND is the brainchild of art college buddies: Ziggy Campbell (lead vocals, guitar), Tommy Perman (bass guitar, synth) and Kev Sim (electronics, percussion). The band create an unusual mix of garage rock, melodic pop and glitchy electronica, which has just lead to them signing a publishing deal with the highly respected Domino Records and record deal with Chemikal Underground. FOUND began life as an experimental arts collective putting on many weird and wonderful events in art galleries, warehouses and even storage containers. They most recently hit the headlines this summer with a limited edition 7” single version of their track ‘Anti Climb Paint’ which was made from chocolate, and also created Cybraphon, the BAFTA-winning interactive mechanical band in a box (http://cybraphon.com/) .

BEN BUTLER & MOUSEPAD

Ben Butler & Mousepad is Joe Howe, from Glasgow, Scotland. He has produced weird, complex, fun, synth-led music under a bunch of aliases, including Gay Against You and Germlin. Recent times have seen Ben Butler & Mousepad tour the United States with Deerhoof, release their first album on London’s LOAF and a 7″ on Oslo’s DODPOP label. Joe wrote an album with Momus and worked on a synthesizer opera about Wendy Carlos.
