Born To Be Wide / Thursday 5 May / The Electric Circus, / 36 Market Street, / Edinburgh / 1930-2130
Leading music scene social night, Born To Be Wide, is pleased to announce the addition of one of Scotland’s most experienced music PRs to tonight’s (Thurs 5) music blog seminar. Mike Gourlay, who has worked with acts including Arcade Fire, Pete Doherty and Coldplay, will provide a valuable insight into the role of bloggers in the wider media.
He will join the writers of Song By Toad, The Pop Cop and Peenko, as well as Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, for the event at Edinburgh’s Electric Circus.
“Mike has been working in music PR for almost 20 years and has been able to observe the increasingly important role of music blogs,” says Born To Be Wide co-organiser, Olaf Furniss.
Gourlay adds that many people now turn to bloggers to source emerging talent. “As national media become more mainstream, there is a definite need for people who talk about new music,” he says.

Born To Be Wide was launched in February 2004 to provide a meeting place for those involved or interested in the Scottish music scene. A diverse range of musicians, journalists, promoters, label owners and friends of music, invited to play their all-time favourite records unless they were by Morrissey or Joy Division.
Since April 2008 the night has hosted seminars covering subjects such as How To Get A Gig, A&R, Music Management, and Music Photography.
Born To Be Wide’s organisers also host the Wide Days conference and showcase event, which takes place in Edinburgh every April. Both events enjoy the support of the Musicians’ Union.
