THE FEELING TO HEADLINE LOOPALLU

The Feeling

The first headliner for the seventh Loopallu can now be confirmed as one of the UK’s most successful feel good acts of recent years, The Feeling. They are set to provide one of the greatest sing-a-long sets the festival has ever seen with a back catalogue of hits to choose from including, ‘Never Be Lonely’, ‘Fill My Little World’, ‘Sewn’ and ‘Set My World On Fire’.

Their 3rd album Together We Were Made was released earlier this month and saw the band perform an hour long special for BBC Radio 2 at London’s Mermaid Theatre.

Continuing the sing-a-long theme, and on the back of an extremely successful Highland tour at the start of the year, we welcome the Fratellis frontman Jon Fratelli. As well as playing songs from his new album, expect to hear some of the classic hits that made the Fratellis one of the biggest bands in the UK. Jon’s playing with a full band, including two drummers!

Still ‘Young at Heart’, we’re really pleased to have another set of homegrown heroes, who’ve recently reformed. The Bluebells. With a string of hits to their name, you’ll be able to hear the singing in Stornoway this year!

Finally announcement for the time being, the one band Loopallu wouldn’t be Loopallu without…. Kicking off proceedings, The Ullapool Pipe Band.

Tickets for this year are priced at £60 for weekend tickets and £75 for weekend and camping. Weekend and Camping ticket holders wishing to bring campervans and caravans will be charged £25 per vehicle. As, since the beginning, tickets for children 12 & under will be free (though need to be accompanied by an adult)

Tickets, available in person from Northwest Outdoors (Ullapool), Mania & Ironworks (Inverness); Online from www.thebooth.co.uk  www.ticketmaster.co.uk  www.skiddle.com  ; 24 hr Tel 08444 999 990

FIGHT IS ON TO SAVE AYR’S LIBERTINE VENUE

LOCALS RALLY TO SAVE THE LIBERTINE

A popular live music venue in Ayr called Libertines has come under threat of almost immediate closure by owners Scottish & Newcastle. Music fans have rallied round and formed a protest group to fight against this decision with a petition, facebook page, free protest gig and a street demonstration.

Following is an appeal by Libertine regulars for help in saving not just their venue but also to help stop the slow drip of many such venues being lost throughout the country.

SAVE THE LIBERTINE!

Small venues are very important to the UK music scene, they’re even more important to the local scene. Bar Libertine in Ayr is that sort of venue. It may be small, but it’s popular with local musicians, local music fans and musicians from further afield.

Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company have just told staff that the Libertine will be closing as of Monday June 27th 2011, that’s less than 7 days notice to the patrons and staff.

The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is great and the gigs are intimate. What more could you want in a small venue? Food? They sell food too.

Please help us save this much needed venue. Here are several ways you can do that, feel free to do as many of them as you want. (Links at foot of story).

Petition – There is a petition here that takes less than a minute to fill out.

Facebook – “Like” the page here to show your support.

Twitter – Share this site, petition or Facebook page with your followers, using the hashtag #savethelibertine.

Email – Let Scottish & Newcastle know that they’re making the wrong decision by emailing enquiries@s-npubcompany.co.uk. please be polite, any rude messages or foul language would detract from the good intentions of the campaign.

Press – Contact any radio stations or newspapers that you think would be interested. The more publicity we can get, the better. Send them to SaveTheLibertine.tk.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never been to Libertine, or if you’ll never make it along. By simply signing your name you can make an important difference, and help prevent the destruction of an increasing music scene. The campaign has already had support from many local artists, as well as Michael McKean (Spinal Tap), Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails), Roddy Bottum (Faith No More), Jim Gellatly (radio presenter) and David Quantick (Journalist).
