Wide Days is set to return to Edinburgh as a physical music convention from 19-21 May, with a conference, one-to-one meetings and live performances, as well as a range of informal networking opportunities including guided tours, whisky tasting and exotic soft-drink sampling. And drawing on the experience of hosting numerous online events, organisers are planning to incorporate a range of digital elements.

As part of the convention, Wide Days will also showcase the six emerging Scottish acts, selected for the international talent development programme (presented in partnership with PRS Foundation). Chosen by a global panel of music industry professionals, it is open to musicians, producers and DJs of any genre who apply via a free application process (deadline 16 January).

“Over the past 20 months we have been able to build on our international ties, connecting Scottish artists and industry professionals with their counterparts around the world and initiating some great partnerships,” says Wide Days founder, Olaf Furniss. “We are looking forward to being able to meet in-person next May, while adding online elements such as pre-event meetings to match up delegates and speakers participate remotely.”

PRS Foundation CEO, Joe Frankland adds:

“Wide Days has always been a key moment in the music industry calendar and an important platform for Scotland’s emerging music creators,” he says. “Artists on its talent development programme have a history of developing their careers in the UK and breaking through internationally, and we are looking forward to seeing the impact the showcase will have on the of the six acts selected for 2022.”

The conference programme will include a theme on how music export opportunities can be developed by working with other industries such as tourism and gaming, and in response to audience feedback, the 15 Minutes Of Knowledge strand will be expanded. For the past three years this has provided a essential information on a range of topics including PR, Social Media and Digital Releases.

Individuals who have played a key role in developing Scottish talent will to be honoured in the Local Hero sessions and Wide Days will continue working with charity Attitude Is Everything to explore how the music industry can become more accommodating for disabled music professionals and audiences. Details of the conference programme will follow in the new year.

About MUSIC NEWS Scotland

MUSIC NEWS Scotland was born 20 years ago when dial up broadband was still around and desktop pc’s ruled. So we did what had been done since 220 AD in China and every month put ink on a printing plate, ran some paper over it and hey presto MNS was published (okay it was a wee bit more involved than that, but the basic principle was the same!) Move on to 2011 with high speed broadband and access to the www everywhere and the future was catching up with us rapidly. The volume of information flowing into MNS HQ was more than our monthly issue could cope with, and more and more Scottish music stories of great value were being spiked (an old press term not a dodgy drink). Reaching our vast number of readers in every conceivable nook and cranny of Scotland has always been a challenge monthly but to do that more often was physically not feasible. So we have doffed oor tam o’ shanter to the future and MNS is now a weekly digital publication, and not only weekly now but twice the number of pages than our old printed friend! Along with our MNS GIGguide and MNS FESTIVALS! supplements we are now publishing news and valuable information on Scottish music news every week :) We remain as true as ever to our launch roots of 8 years ago though - MUSIC NEWS Scotland supports all Scottish bands and performers no matter what style of music you’re involved in. Our aim is to circulate music industry news and to help to raise the profile of musicians and improve communications between genres. To help achieve this copies of MUSIC NEWS Scotland are emailed to key industry contacts throughout the UK. Thank you for your support over the last 8 years and please raise a glass to our digital future with you all. Thanks for your support, The MNS team!
