Scottish musicians wanted for Glasgow MOBO Showcase

Scottish artists, DJs, bands and solo performers across all genres are being encouraged to showcase their musical talents in a one day legacy event entitled ‘Celebrate MOBO’ ahead of the MOBO Awards. The one-day event will take place at The Barras Art and Design Centre on Friday, 18 October from 10am – 6pm.

The launch of Celebrate MOBO marks the 18th anniversary of the MOBO Awards which will be screened live from the SSE Hydro, a first for the city, and to mark the occasion MOBO has been working with its partners to create a one day free industry event to highlight urban culture and music influence in Scotland.

Celebrate MOBO will give emerging Scottish talent the opportunity to network and engage with industry experts from the fields of digital, gaming, music and fashion. Confirmed speakers at the event include music entrepreneur Brian D’Souza from Open Ear, Iain Hamilton from goNORTH, James Jefferson from Equator, Ciaran O’Toole from TeamRock, and fashion designer Rebecca Torres.

Musicians wishing to get involved with this festival opportunity should visit the Celebrate MOBO website and e-mail details about their band including genre of music, bio and an online music link. Selected musicians will then be chosen to perform on the day and also be invited to take part in music sessions at BAaD to encourage collaboration.

As well as showcasing the best of the Scottish music scene, Celebrate MOBO will also provide an opportunity to gain insight into digital promotion through on-line tools, music consumption, and how music inspires all levels of business with insight from fashion designers; digital agencies; the media, and an underground culture demonstration with a live graffiti battle.

MUSIC NEWS Scotland was born 20 years ago when dial up broadband was still around and desktop pc’s ruled. So we did what had been done since 220 AD in China and every month put ink on a printing plate, ran some paper over it and hey presto MNS was published (okay it was a wee bit more involved than that, but the basic principle was the same!) Move on to 2011 with high speed broadband and access to the www everywhere and the future was catching up with us rapidly. The volume of information flowing into MNS HQ was more than our monthly issue could cope with, and more and more Scottish music stories of great value were being spiked (an old press term not a dodgy drink). Reaching our vast number of readers in every conceivable nook and cranny of Scotland has always been a challenge monthly but to do that more often was physically not feasible. So we have doffed oor tam o’ shanter to the future and MNS is now a weekly digital publication, and not only weekly now but twice the number of pages than our old printed friend! Along with our MNS GIGguide and MNS FESTIVALS! supplements we are now publishing news and valuable information on Scottish music news every week :) We remain as true as ever to our launch roots of 8 years ago though - MUSIC NEWS Scotland supports all Scottish bands and performers no matter what style of music you’re involved in. Our aim is to circulate music industry news and to help to raise the profile of musicians and improve communications between genres.
