Free Edinburgh music advice seminar for under 25s

Born To Be Wide has announced a partnership with ‘Big Hearts Music’ which will see Born To Be Wide deliver a special free seminar for under 25 year olds at Tynecastle Stadium in Edinburgh on Friday 19 October as part of the charity’s Doors Open Day.

‘Making It: Getting Ahead in Music’ will provide emerging musicians and those interested a career in the music business, with practical advice on getting gigs, press/radio coverage, finding management and gaining exposure online. The seminar is open to anyone under the age of 25 years old, and is completely free of charge, however advanced tickets should be obtained from www.bigheartsmusic.eventbrite.com

ABOUT BORN TO BE WIDE

Born To Be Wide was launched in February 2004 to provide a meeting place for those involved or interested in the Scottish music scene. A diverse range of musicians, journalists, promoters, label owners and friends of music, invited to play their all-time favourite records unless they were by Morrissey or Joy Division. Since April 2008 the night has hosted seminars covering subjects such as How To Get A Gig, Unveiling The Mind Of A Music Journalist, A&R, Music PR, How To Get On The Radio, Music Management, Booking Agents, a Norwegian night and a German special which included a seminar, a live show by Berlin band Jeans Team and a DJ set by the Consul General. Born To Be Wide also hosts the Wide Days conference and showcase event which takes place in Edinburgh in April and organises panels for Go North. Born To Be Wide enjoys the support of the Musicians’ Union.

Big Hearts Music is a youth music project delivered at Tynecastle Stadium by Big Hearts Community Trust , Heart of Midlothian FC’s main vehicle for investing in community development projects. Big Hearts Community Trust is an independent charity and its role is to support the work of local people towards building communities where people of all ages can live, work and participate in sport safely, where they welcome each other’s differences and help each other to grow and succeed. This requires the club, through the Trust, to actively engage with local community leaders and forums and to offer sporting opportunities and a wide range of inspiring health and educational activities for the benefit of local people.

The Youth Music Initiative (YMI) is administered by Creative Scotland, with funding from Scottish Government. By the end of 2011, it will have invested a significant £67.5million in music making activities across Scotland. About MUSIC NEWS Scotland

MUSIC NEWS Scotland was born 20 years ago when dial up broadband was still around and desktop pc’s ruled. So we did what had been done since 220 AD in China and every month put ink on a printing plate, ran some paper over it and hey presto MNS was published (okay it was a wee bit more involved than that, but the basic principle was the same!) Move on to 2011 with high speed broadband and access to the www everywhere and the future was catching up with us rapidly. The volume of information flowing into MNS HQ was more than our monthly issue could cope with, and more and more Scottish music stories of great value were being spiked (an old press term not a dodgy drink). Reaching our vast number of readers in every conceivable nook and cranny of Scotland has always been a challenge monthly but to do that more often was physically not feasible. So we have doffed oor tam o’ shanter to the future and MNS is now a weekly digital publication, and not only weekly now but twice the number of pages than our old printed friend! Along with our MNS GIGguide and MNS FESTIVALS! supplements we are now publishing news and valuable information on Scottish music news every week :) We remain as true as ever to our launch roots of 8 years ago though - MUSIC NEWS Scotland supports all Scottish bands and performers no matter what style of music you’re involved in. Our aim is to circulate music industry news and to help to raise the profile of musicians and improve communications between genres. To help achieve this copies of MUSIC NEWS Scotland are emailed to key industry contacts throughout the UK.
