Born To Be Wide is pleased to announce an additional guest for tonight’s Beyond The Regular Gig seminar, which takes place at Edinburgh’s Electric Circus.
Shaun Allan will provide an insight into staging performances in the virtual world of Second Life, describing the technical aspects and the promotional benefits.
With over 10m subscriber, the social network boasts its own club nights and venues, enabling musicians of various genres to reach new audiences, which in turn can lead to bookings at real life events.
Shaun is co-founder of Vector 76 which specialises in 3D environments and creating augmented reality apps. He has hosted live shows within Second Life, including the single launch for Viva City.
“Shaun’s activity will add a new dimension to this extremely diverse panel,” says Born To Be Wide co-organiser, Olaf Furniss.
Shaun will join speakers Douglas Robertson, who has hosted dozens of concerts in his Edinburgh home, Andy Richardson whose Trouble club nights include live acts and Braw Music’s Nick Herd, who has hosted concerts in churches, recording studios and galleries.
Also taking part is Ally McCrae, who combines his BBC activity with co-running Detour events. These feature “kidnapped” bands who are filmed playing in outside locations which have included an island on the River Ness, several back alleys and the Forth Road Bridge.

ABOUT BORN TO BE WIDE
Born To Be Wide was launched in February 2004 to provide a meeting place for those involved or interested in the Scottish music scene. A diverse range of musicians, journalists, promoters, label owners and friends of music, invited to play their all-time favourite records unless they were by Morrissey or Joy Division. Since April 2008 the night has hosted seminars covering subjects such as How To Get A Gig, A&R, Music Management, and Music Photography.
Born To Be Wide’s organisers also host the Wide Days conference and showcase event, which takes place in Edinburgh every April. Both events enjoy the support of the Musicians’ Union.
