Wickerman (Friday 20th & Saturday 21st July) one of Scotland’s best-loved summer music and arts festivals, has revealed its hotly anticipated line-up for 2012, with monumental New York pop stars Scissor Sisters and top Scottish popsters Texas revealed as headliners for the main Summerisle Stage.
Set to be one of the hottest parties of the summer, Scissor Sisters’ unique breed of glam pop will top the bill on Friday 20th July, as the band debut material from their eagerly anticipated new album. Folk rock heroes Levellers, Britpop icons Cast, Scottish indie rockers Bis, five-piece indie pop band Dog is Dead and American songstress Jenny O will also take to the stage on the first full day of the festival.
On Saturday 21st July, Sharleen and the boys will be performing their beloved back catalogue of hits in their only Scottish festival appearance this year. They are joined on the Summerisle line up bill by very special guests, crowd-rousing Dundee rockers The View, ‘Dream Catch Me’ singer / songwriter Newton Faulkner, Scots indie-folk outfit Kassidy, Northern Ireland’s critically-acclaimed Duke Special and hotly-tipped British indie band, The Heartbreaks.
Now in its eleventh year, the festival will once again come to a spectacular climax with the legendary Saturday night lighting of the Wickerman: followed this year by a DJ set from Mike Skinner, and a promise to keep the Wickerman party stoked into the wee small hours.
A valued platform for championing Scottish music, Wickerman prides itself on presenting the best up-and-coming acts in the Solus Tent, and this year is no exception. A bill of talented artists is led by Malcolm Middleton’s innovative instrumental band Human Don’t Be Angry, experimental rock group United Fruit, the newly assembled Anderson McGinty Webster Ward and Fisher and the acclaimed Beerjacket to name just a few.
Catering for every music taste, Skiddle’s Bass Camp tent entitled ‘2012 – A Bass Odyssey’ has a vibrant line up of DJs to add to the mix with BBC Radio 1’s ‘In New DJs We Trust’ Jordan Suckley, Yousef, Kryder, D.O.D and ex-Coronation Street star Graeme Hawley all preparing to be part of one of Scotland’s biggest summer parties.
Wickerman Festival Coordinator Helen Chalmers is delighted to be revealing the first names for the 2012 event. She commented: ‘We are incredibly excited to be unveiling this year’s line-up which is classic Wickerman – an eclectic mix of established, emerging and retro artists that will deliver some fantastic performances across the two days of the festival. From Texas stirring the Summerisle crowd into a sing-a-long frenzy with their incredible set of hits, to the fun and infectious energy of the Scissor Sisters or the very best new talent in the Solus Tent – Wickerman offers two days of fantastic music for all tastes and ages, all blended with our relaxed, fun, friendly festival atmosphere.’
Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears is thrilled his New York band are headlining Wickerman Festival on the Friday night: “We are so excited to play at Wickerman Festival this year. The UK has always been our spiritual home, and Scotland has especially proven to be some of the best audiences we have ever experienced – and with all the great hype we have heard about Wickerman, it is sure to be a great show!”
Sharleen Spiteri is also looking forward to be heading to the beautiful Dumfries and Galloway countryside in July to bring Texas to Wickerman for the first time. She commented: ‘We’re delighted to be playing our only Scottish festival performance of the summer at Wickerman. It will be a first for Texas but we’ve heard so much about the great festival atmosphere and friendly Wickerman crowds and we’ll be making it a show to remember with a mix of our classic hits and some new material. We look forward to seeing our fans there for a great weekend.’
About The Wickerman Festival
A celebration of art and entertainment, there’s so much more than music at Wickerman. On site activities will include a fun fair, fire walking, music and dance workshops, cinema, grass sledging, Segway hire, wood carving demonstrations and the 7stanes mountain bike display team. The welcoming atmosphere and dedicated children’s area have also earned it a reputation of one of the UK’s most family friendly events.
Located in one of the most stunning corners of Scotland, The Wickerman Festival offers a setting like no other. The scenic main campsite includes both general and late and lively areas with the quiet campsite located at the other side of the field for those looking to get a good bit of shut eye. Pitches for campervans and caravans can also be booked with or without an electric hook up.
Elsewhere, the luxury camping field is something extra special; a handcrafted village of tipis, cloudhouses and yurts, all full of character and boasting the comforts of home. Combining fresh air and natural beauty with glamping extras there are hot-showers, flushing toilets and spacious outdoor areas.
