Musicians from across Scotland bring their beats and riffs to Ayr in aid of Oxfam for the Oxjam Big Weekend Music Festival in Ayr hosted by Harleys Furys.
The event begins at 23:00 on Thursday July 7 running over the weekend and wrapping up at 02:00 on Monday July 11. Bands include Kilmarnock’s alternative rock band Mechanical Smile and their grunge with a twist; Scottish musicians Finding Albert their indie sound; Stanley Odd, fresh from Solas Festival, add their mix of the Hip Hop, Funk and Electronica genres; and Fort William’s Russian Ninjas their indie rock tunes.
Lyndsey Pollock, from Ayr, is the organiser of Oxjam Big Weekend Music Festival in Ayr. She said:
“The Oxjam Big Weekend Music Festival in Ayr features some of the best talent from the West of Scotland’s unsigned music scene”, says Lyndsey Pollock. “Music lovers from acoustic enthusiasts to grunge rockers will be swaying, toe tapping, and possibly head banging, from Thursday the 7th of July through the weekend to the wee hours of Monday morning.
“We have some amazing bands and artists to entertain the crowds including multi-award winning singer-songwriter Baby Taylor from Stirling; Rose Parade, a favourite of many Scottish Radio Producers and local bloggers, most definitely a band to watch in 2011; Glasgow’s The Fiction, who are also playing The Wickerman Festival later this month; and our Sunday headliners Finding Albert who have previously supported Newton Faulkner, and Biffy Clyro in America.
“I love Oxjam’s tagline ‘Local Music. Global Impact’ – it sums up Oxjam so perfectly. Although, I think for Ayr’s Oxjam Big Weekend Music Festival, not-so-local music is possibly more appropriate as we have attracted fantastic bands from across Scotland to our stages.”
Festival goers will also be able to purchase food, donated by Belcher Foods of Ayrshire, barbequed on site and raffle tickets with the monies donated to Oxfam. Raffle prizes include: a pair tickets for The Wombats; a pair of tickets for The Complete Stone Roses; and lots more.

Thursday 7 July 23:00: Silent disco in Fury Murry’s (entry fee: £3 before midnight and £4 after)
Friday 8 July from 17:00: ‘NME Stage’ plays host to rock bands Mechanical Smile, Annie Stevenson, and Russian Ninjas (entry fee: £2)
Saturday 9 July from 14:00: ‘Harley’s Introducing Stage’ hosts acoustic acts Mark Hogg, Martin Docherty, Baby Taylor, Dani Camacho (Politics of Time), We Looked Like Giants (Dave Ayling), Martin McLaughlan, and Pammi Quinn. Followed by Dear Stars and The Fiction on the ‘Main Stage’ in the evening (entry fee: £2)
Sunday 10 July from 14:00: Ten bands perform on the ‘King Tuts Wah Wah all dayer’ including Wildcard, Roadster, Rachel Red & the Revolvers, Finding Albert, Jaego, The Mighty Kung Fu, Stanley Odd, Rose Parade, Johnny Graham and Forgotten Sunday (entry fee: £3). The festival closing party will be held at Fury Murry’s (£3 before midnight and £4 after)
Festival goers attending Harley’s for the live bands will receive a wristband upon payment, this will provide them with discounted entry into Fury’s after party that evening.
