Want to open one of Joan Armatrading’s Scottish gigs in autumn 2012?

Joan’s management team are offering a local singer-songwriter the chance to represent their town or city on the 2012 tour by performing an opening 15 minute set prior to the main support act. Each local singer-songwriter should submit an mp3 file of them performing two songs, one original, one a cover, on either guitar or piano to localtalent.ja_2012@yahoo.com attached to an email. The lucky winners will be chosen by Joan Armatrading’s management team.

The 2012 Scottish concerts are:

October – 28th Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow / 29th Concert Hall, Perth / 30th Music Hall, Aberdeen and November 1: Usher Hall, Edinburgh

Three times Grammy nominated, Brit award nominee and Ivor Novella winner singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading MBE, will be touring a mammoth fifty two dates in both the UK and Ireland.

Never one to rest on her laurels, Joan remains fresh, vibrant and current; no more so than when live, on stage, where music comes to life. With every tour you are guaranteed a fantastic mix of magical old favourites plus brand new songs to fall in love with. Joan is as happy to play Love and Affection, Willow, Drop The Pilot and Me, Myself I, as the audience is to hear them. She is equally happy and proud of how her audiences embrace hearing new and exciting compositions, like Into The Blues (debuted at No. 1 in the US Blues chart 2007) and This Charming Life (debuted at No. 1 in Amazon download chart 2010). During her long and illustrious career Joan has been successful in all musical genres, Pop, Blues, Folk, Reggae, and Jazz. Her audience, newly attracted or long term fans are as loyal to her as she is faithful to them.

The 2012 tour will see Joan performing Love and Affection amongst many other firm favourites, and also showcase songs from her brand new CD due for release in time for the tour. Joan is recognised as one of the World’s leading singer, songwriter and guitarists and the 2012 tour should not be missed.

Joan’s Special Guest on all of the dates will be Chris Wood (BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Singer of The Year 2011).

MUSIC NEWS Scotland was born 20 years ago when dial up broadband was still around and desktop pc’s ruled. So we did what had been done since 220 AD in China and every month put ink on a printing plate, ran some paper over it and hey presto MNS was published (okay it was a wee bit more involved than that, but the basic principle was the same!) Move on to 2011 with high speed broadband and access to the www everywhere and the future was catching up with us rapidly. The volume of information flowing into MNS HQ was more than our monthly issue could cope with, and more and more Scottish music stories of great value were being spiked (an old press term not a dodgy drink). Reaching our vast number of readers in every conceivable nook and cranny of Scotland has always been a challenge monthly but to do that more often was physically not feasible. So we have doffed oor tam o’ shanter to the future and MNS is now a weekly digital publication, and not only weekly now but twice the number of pages than our old printed friend! Along with our MNS GIGguide and MNS FESTIVALS! supplements we are now publishing news and valuable information on Scottish music news every week :) We remain as true as ever to our launch roots of 8 years ago though - MUSIC NEWS Scotland supports all Scottish bands and performers no matter what style of music you’re involved in. Our aim is to circulate music industry news and to help to raise the profile of musicians and improve communications between genres.
