Scotland’s leading music scene social night, Born To Be Wide, is to host a music blogger seminar at Edinburgh’s Electric Circus on Thursday 5 May. The event will begin with a 15-minute presentation on how to set up a blog and will be followed by a discussion outlining the role of the medium in promoting acts and getting them signed.
Guests include the writers behind Song By Toad, The Pop Cop and Peenko, as well as Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, who will provide an artist’s perspective.
“Blogs have become extremely influential with A&Rs and mainstream media, including the BBC and NME, using them to source new acts,” explains Born To Be Wide co-organiser, Olaf Furniss. “Moreover, The Pop Cop is Scotland’s representative in the 35-country Music Alliance Pact, so offers a strong international dimension as well.”
In addition to the presentation on launching a blog, participants will also describe how to generate readers and explain how bands can make the most use of their publications. Scott Hutchison, who has long made use of digital media, will detail what role bloggers play in his band’s success.
Following the seminar, he and his fellow panelists will DJ with records they have selected from Edinburgh’s Oxfam record shop. Everything played will be available to buy, with the proceeds going to the charity.
